Thinking Girly Thoughts

Throughout this pregnancy when asked which I wanted, boy or girl, I enthusiastically replied "girl." As my friend Sarah puts it, we have enough testosterone in this house (Sarah's a very girly girl). And let's face it, girl clothes are WAY cuter. How is it that I've been blessed with my preference for the second time: IT'S A GIRL!!!

We couldn't be happier. Of course I've always said that another boy would be wonderful and absolutely no less loved, but hey it's true about that testosterone thing. So, we spent the day on Friday in a cloud of excitement and had many conversations about what it will be like to parent her. When we told Nancy and Jerry about it I was amused at Nancy's mild disbelief, as if to say "how could our boy-dominated family produce two girls out of three?" Guess those Malone boys have it in them afterall.

Now it's time to "think pink" and spend gobs of time drooling over girl racks while shopping. I forsee a source of marital frustration =).

Rodney was just as excited as I was when we learned we were having a girl. Some of his remarks were that boy competition won't be an issue and that he doesn't have to worry that he will love or relate to this child with any less gusto as it's a completely different entity. He did say that he was a bit nervous because he's been around boys all his life. I took this to mean that parenting a boy seemed way more natural because it had been modelled to him by his father. Girls are brand new territory.

Rodney and I are not ones to hide name choices, so I might as well share it now. Early in our marriage we decided to come up with names for our future children, one boy and one girl, and these names have stuck. William Paul was the boy name and the girl name was (is) Eva Sophia. Eva is my maternal grandmother's name and we also just think it's beautiful (Will is named after Rod's maternal grandfather). We're toying with the idea of lenghthening it to Evelyn or Evangeline but haven't decided on that one. If any of you have ideas on how else to lengthen the name please share.

Glad to hear the news!! Congrats!!! I'm sure Kevin can reassure Rodney - he, too, came from a family of just boys. Now - with 2 girls, we don't know any different and wonder if #3 is a boy - what will we do? We can swap ideas/suggestions/tips!!

Shopping for girls can cause a little stress!! Thank goodness for grandmas!!!

So good to talk to you yesterday. Thanks for calling... Girls are great. I'm so glad I have Ingrid, however I can definitely see how the teenage years may be more difficult with a girl... But who needs to go down that road right now???!! :) Can't wait to meet her. Love you all! XOXOX

Congratulations! Hooray!

Well, if it's any help to your marital situation, keep in mind that our Evie will have clothes to share with your Eva! So in addition to sharing a name (or close) they will also share a wardrobe.

Can't wait to get home and hang out with you all! Jess seems to be afraid of other babies so you'll have to ask Will to go easy on him.

Congratulations! I am so excited for you guys! I love the name, but will it be pronounced with a long e or short e? I'm guessing long e, but I've heard it both ways.
As for parenting a girl, I'd say Rodney did a pretty good job the summer he took care of Jordan and me! haha

I'm so happy for you guys. Ella is excited about a new girl cousin:)
So far our baby girl is very laid back and has a sweet and calm personality(if you can already have a personality at 3 weeks) Enjoy the last few months of your pregnancy and rest. Congratulations again. Love Crystal

Congrats on having a girl. The Laughlin's (of Litchfield) have about the same reputation,...of producing boys in the family, except, good or bad, we're living up to the boy "hype". Justin and Jody--3 boys, 0 girls. Chad and Alison--2 boys (yep, we're having a boy at Christmas), 1 girl. Heath and Lindsey--1 of each. Total count, boys 6 girls 2 :)

Girls are truly sweet, Rodney, so enjoy it. I love Lilly to death and they really grip your heart. I already know I won't be ready to give her away when the day comes.

Second thought, Alison and I are totally for the marriage arrangement thing and we typically base it on what we know of the parents (we don't know many kids yet) so maybe we should interview each other.

You two are quite alright. ;)

Wow! I thought it was too early to know what you're having! Congratulations! I was different, I wanted another boy, but now that I have my baby girl, I am loving it! I also really like the name Evelyn, if you're going to lengthen Eva. Both are very beautiful. Evelyn was one of our top 3, but we went with Rose.
